Rohit Sharma becomes the King of T20 as he breaks this record of Virat Kohli

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE – It has all been Kohli Kohli and Kohli. Kohli makes 10k international runs, Kohli makes Captaincy records and what not but then Kohli is not everything and he is not King of every format India plays this has been proved by India’s opener Rohit Sharma who has surpassed Virat Kohli to become the highest run-scorer in T20 international cricket for India.

Rohit who is also captaining the T20 team in ongoing India and West Indies  T20 series as the regular captain Virat Kohli has been rested for the series. He achieved this feat in the 3rd over of the match.  The match is being played at Bharat Ratan Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. He surpassed Kohli when he with a six in the fifth over of the match.

Before the start of the match, Rohit needed only 11 runs to surpass Kohli’s tally of runs in the shortest format of the game.

Kohli, who has been rested for the West Indies and Australia tour has 2102 runs in 62 T20Is at an average of 48.88 with 18 half-centuries.

In July, Rohit had become the fifth batsman in men’s cricket to join the 2000-run club when he struck 100 not out against England in Bristol. He became the second Indian man and third Indian overall after women’s team star Mithali Raj and Kohli to accomplish the feat.

He is also India’s most prolific six hitter in the T20Is. Rohit needs three more to go past New Zealand great Brendon McCullum’s tally of 91 sixes. Rohit is a serial record-breaker in limited-overs cricket.

He is the only man to score three double hundreds in one-day internationals and holds the record for the highest individual score in the format. Back in 2014, Rohit had left the cricket world stunned with his 264 against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens.

In T20 Internationals, Rohit and New Zealand’s Colin Munro are the only two batsmen to have scored three centuries each. Rohit had failed in the first game scoring only 6 at his favourite hunting ground, Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

India look to seal the series with a win in the second T20I against the Windies at the newly-built Bharat Ratan Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

India and West Indies have played 9 T20 Internationals so far with the Windies winning 5 and India 3. One match ended in no result. The Uttar Pradesh government had on Monday rechristened the Ekana International Cricket Stadium as Bharat Ratan Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium ahead of the match.
