Resident Doctors on “Indefinite” strike
NPnews24 Online: There are “Indefinite Strike” called by resident doctors of governments’ hospitals, including AIIMS and Ram Manohar Lohia hospital from 8 am of today morning to protest against National Medical Commission Bill, which is to be tabled in Rajya Sabha today and it will continue if bill passed from Rajya Sabha today. Bill will replace the existing Indian Medical Council Act of 1956.
Resident Doctor: Our strike is against some provisions of NMC Bill. Resident doctors have been withdrawn from services. Faculty&consultants are providing services. There was concern raised by medical fraternity in section 45 of the bill, which allows the government to override any suggestion of the National Medical Commission, leading opposition parties to call the bill “undemocratic” and against the spirit of federalism.
“The bill provisions are nothing but draconian and promote gross incompetence and mockery of professional. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) expressed reservations over section of the bill, called a 24-hour nationwide withdraw of non-essential service on Wednesday.
