Raj Thackeray Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Leader Warns of Consequences Amidst Toll Collection Controversy

NpNews24 Online – The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader, Raj Thackeray, has raised a compelling voice of dissent against the recent surge in toll rates across Thane and Mumbai. In a press conference that echoed with his concerns, Thackeray openly questioned the rationale behind this toll hike and did not mince words in his criticism of the Maharashtra government, primarily led by the BJP and Shiv Sena. Challenging Toll Collection

Raj Thackeray’s stern criticism emanates from his deep-seated opposition to the recent toll rate increases, especially in Thane and Mumbai. The toll collection at five entry points in Mumbai has been a contentious issue since October 1, drawing vehement protests from the MNS. Notably, Avinash Jadhav, a prominent MNS leader, has been at the forefront of the demonstrations against the toll hike.

Warning of Drastic Measures

In a particularly bold move, Thackeray issued a stern warning directed at the Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis. He explicitly stated that if toll collection continued unabated at the toll plazas, they would resort to drastic action, including burning the toll booths. This unequivocal warning underscores the MNS’s unwavering stance against toll collection, which they perceive as a burden on the common citizens.

Protests and Public Outcry

The toll hikes at five specific toll plazas, including Dahisar, Anand Nagar in Mulund, Mulund-Thane road, Thane-Airoli, and Sion-Panvel, have triggered widespread discontent. While the government’s stance on reconsideration remains unclear, the MNS has reignited the debate surrounding the toll hike on the Mumbai-Goa highway.

In a tweet, Thackeray expressed, “Earlier, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had filed a petition to halt the toll collection. I want to ask them on whose behalf this plea was withdrawn? I am also astonished by our citizens’ choices. How can they vote for leaders who make hollow promises to secure power? It is only by voting against such leaders that they will realize their mistakes. In the next 2-4 days, I will meet with the chief minister to present a comprehensive discussion. Then, we can collectively take a stand on the toll increase.”
