Rahul Rathod and Omkar Sonvane of cryptobiz remanded to police custody till April 18; Pune cyber police seize laptop and pen drive

Pune : NpNews24 Online  –  Pune Cyber Police Arrest Cryptobiz CEO Rahul Rathod | The court has remanded Rahul Vjaybhai Rathod (35), a resident of Bluerich Society, Hinjewadi and his close aide Omkar Deepak Sonvane (25), a resident of Kondhwa, who had been arrested by the Pune cyber police for duping many investors based in Kolkata, Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Pune to police custody till April 18. Meanwhile, Pune cyber police have seized a two-wheeler, a four-wheeler, laptop, mobile, internet modem, pen drive and some important documents have been seized from them.

 

Rahul Rathod, who has a BCom degree and done a cyber law course, set up Cryptobiz company by using technology. He advertised on YouTube through cryptobiz exchange and duped many investors based all over the country, of crores of rupees. The Pune cyber police arrested the accused when he was trying to run away. Ravi Shankar Patil (32), a resident of Islampur, Sangli district, had lodged a complaint against the accused.

Rahul Rathod set up cryptobiz company in 2019. He lured investors by telling them that they will get huge returns if they invest through the exchange.

 

Various investment plans like gold, silver, platinum and tial and investors were told that they will get fixed returns in a specified period. They were told that they will get a return of 1, 1.5 and 2 per cent per day. He made videos on YouTube under the name of Traders Destination and lured many people to invest. Investors were told that they will get a discount of one rupee in USD coin. Accordingly, he gave returns to many investors in the initial period. Hence, the people’s trust increased and they invested huge amounts of money in cryptobiz company.

 

However, slowly, he stopped giving returns and closed his office in Kondhwa. Investors from Kolkata, Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Pune came together and lodged a complaint with the Pune cyber police. Later, the police registered an FIR and arrested Rahul Rathod and Omkar Sonvane in 24 hours. The court has ordered that they should be kept till April 18 in the police custody.

 

The action was taken under the guidance of Police Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr, Joint CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP (Crime Branch) Ramnath Pokale, DCP Srinivas Ghadge of Economic Offences Wing and Cyber crime branch, ACP Vijaykumar Palsule by a team of officials including Sr PI Minal Supe Patil, PI Chandrashekhar Sawant, PSI Tushar Bhosale, PSI Sachin Jadhav, PSI Sandeep Kadam and policemen Rajkumar Jaba, Santosh Jadhav, Navnath Konde, Pravin Rajput, Bapu Lonkar, Navnath Jadhav, Nilesh Landge, Balasaheb Karale, Pooja Mandle, Sonali Chavan and Sunaina More.
