PV Sindhu creates history, bags gold medal at BWF World Tour Finals

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE-  23-year-old fighter badminton player, PV Sindhu has again created history by winning BWF World Tour Finals title in Guangzhou, China. Sindhu is the first Indian to win this tournament.

In the final match, Sindhu beat Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara 21-19, 21-17. Last year, both of them had to face the final match, at that time Sindhu had to settle for the runner-up.

Sindhu’s journey up to this tournament’s title:

First round – Akan Yamaguchi (Japan) – 24-22, 21-15

Second round – Tai Zu Ying (Taipei) – 14-21, 21-16, 21-18

Third round – Bevan Zhang (USA) – 21-9, 21-15

Semi-Round – Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand) – 21-16, 25-23

Final fight- Nozomi Okuhara (Japan) – 21-19, 21-17

Finally she bagged Gold:
At the end, she got gold medal for which she was waiting since long time.

Since September 2017, Sindhu had reached the final round in the Hong Kong Open, World Tour Finals, India Open, Commonwealth Games, Thailand Open, World Championship, Asian Games. The gold medal had become a challenge to her as all of her attempts to achieve it were failing.

For this tournament, only top eight players from the world get the chance to play.

Prizes and Awards :

Sindhu kept consistency in her performance in badminton. the Telangana government has given a 1,000 square yards to the Rio Olympics silver medallist Sidhu near Hyderabad.

In 2013, Sindhu was honoured with the Arjuna Award and Padma Shri award in 2015.

In 2016, Sindhu was chosen for the country’s highest civilian award, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.

The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed Sindhu a Deputy Collector.
