Pune University asks ‘what is main reason behind jihadi terrorism’? Apologises after outrage

Pune: The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has landed in yet another controversy over a question asked to final year students during its ongoing examination. The question was ‘What is main reason behind jehadi terrorism?’ After an outrage over this issue, the university has apologised and asked the concerned officials to submit their say on this issue.

SPPU has been conducting examinations for final year students since October 12. Students have been facing several issues during the online and offline mode of this examination. The examinations have been going on smoothly for the last couple of days, but now the university has landed into a new controversy.

The Pune University conducted exam for ‘Defence Budgeting’ subject on Tuesday. In this paper, it had asked a question about main reasons behind jihadi terrorism. Students were given four options – Religious, Revolutionary, Political and State Sponsored. However, after the examination was over, this particular question became viral on social media networks. After the outrage over this issue, Pune University immediately issued an apology.

The SPPU officials said, “The University is conducting examination for 3300 subjects and of these in one subject a question was unknowingly framed in a wrong manner. We have asked the concerned question paper setting committee head to submit their say on this issue. The concerned officials have also been warned.”

However, SPPU officials could not answer queries related to the Defence Budgeting subject and the related course.
