Pune: Maha Yuti’s candidate from Baramati Lok Sabha Sunetra Pawar on Thursday filed her nomination for the Rajya Sabha at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai.

DyCM Ajit Pawar, MP Praful Patel, NCP (AP) State President Sunil Tatkare, State Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and State Assembly Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal were present.

Office-bearers, workers and heads of various cooperative bodies from Baramati city and taluka were shocked after Sunetra Pawar’s defeat in the Lok Sabha poll. The NCP (SP) holds sway over all cooperative and political bodies in Baramati Taluka. There was a quiet in the NCP (SP) after her defeat.

However, there was a cheer among party workers after she filed the nomination for the Rajya Sabha. It is said that she would be inducted into the Central Cabinet after getting elected to the Upper House of Parliament. This will strengthen Ajit Pawar in Baramati.

On the other hand, senior leader Sharad Pawar has already started campaigning for the State Assembly elections. He is touring the Lok Sabha constituency and holding gatherings in Baramati. The NCP (SP) is likely to field Yugendra Pawar, Ajit Pawar’s nephew, against Ajit Pawar from Baramati. NCP (SP) workers are insisting on his candidature. So, there will be a direct fight between the uncle and the nephew for the state assembly seat.

Following Sunetra Pawar’s election to the Rajya Sabha, there will be bitter tussle between the two Pawars in Baramati. There is political suspense over likely twists in politics. If Sunetra Pawar is elected unopposed, there will be three MPs from the Pawar clan.
