Pune Sambhaji Brigade warns of agitation on Maratha reservation issue

Pune: The President of Sambhaji Brigade, Adv. Manoj Akhre during a press conference on Monday demanded that reservation should be given to the Maratha community from the entire OBC quota. The issue of reservation given to the Maratha community from the SEBC category has not been resolved yet. Also, SEBC’s reservation will not be upheld by law.

The reservation given to the Maratha community by the backward class commission set up by the state government, is constitutional. ‘Maratha-Kunabi’ and ‘Kunabi-Maratha’ are one and the same, this society is socio-economically backward.

The Backward Classes Commission has recommended to the State and Central Governments to give reservation to the Maratha community by including them in the OBC category; But due to lack of political will, the Maratha community is being neglected from the reservation.

Aakhre said, “Also, the government is misleading in this regard and this issue is not being addressed. So the recruitment has been stopped. Promotions are stagnant and students are being denied admission to colleges and schools. For this, the central government should accept the recommendation of the backward class commission and give reservation to the Maratha community from the OBC quota”

State Organiser Santosh Shinde, North District President Chandrashekhar Gadge, City President Avinash Mohite were present during the press conference. He also demanded that caste wise census of OBC community should be done in the the national census of 2020-21.

The issue of reservation has not been resolved yet and no decision has been taken by the government. This will be taken up with the Chief Minister and the Governor to resolve the issue. However, the Sambhaji brigade warned that if no concrete action was taken, there would be a strong agitation in the state.
