Pune News | State Government to Decide Fate of Fursungi and Uruli Devachi as Separate Municipalities

Pune: Pune News | The district administration has granted permission to establish separate municipal councils for the villages of Fursungi and Uruli Devachi. According to a report submitted by the district administration, these villages meet the population requirement to become a ‘B’ class municipality. The decision now rests with the state government, and all eyes are on what they will decide.

In 2017, Fursungi and Uruli Deva were included in the Pune Municipal Corporation. However, the residents of these villages complained about high taxes and lack of facilities. In a meeting with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on December 6, 2022, they requested exclusion from the municipal corporation and the formation of separate municipalities. Chief Minister Shinde announced the intention to fulfill their demand. Subsequently, the citizens filed objections with the district administration. Over four and a half thousand objections and suggestions were received within a month.

To address these objections, the Collector, Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, appointed representatives from the Haveli provinces. After conducting hearings and considering the objections and suggestions, the Collector submitted a report to the state government on June 21. However, due to administrative tasks in Pune district, the report was delayed.

The report contains feedback and recommends the formation of separate municipalities for Fursungi and Uruli Deva. The decision now rests with the state government.
