Pune News | Ravindra Dhangekar keeps status of photo with Raj Thackeray; Congress activists get restless over possible ‘ghar wapsi’

PUNE: Pune News | Speculation is rife in political circles whether Congress MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, who emerged as a giant killer by defeating the BJP candidate in the Kasba Peth bypoll, is thinking of re-joining the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) after he kept a status of a photo with MNS Chief Raj Thackeray. The activists of Congress have become restless over the possibility of Dhangekar, who became an MLA only five months ago, planning to return to MNS.

Dhangekar is a former MNS activist and he had contested the Kasba Peth assembly election in 2009 and 2014. Hence, Dhangekar has good ties with MNS activists and leaders. While campaigning for the Kasba Peth assembly bypoll, he had visited MNS office and he was welcomed with great joy by MNS leaders. There was a discussion whether MNS was indirectly supporting Dhangekar when MNS is supporting the BJP. Discussions about Dhangekar re-joining the Congress has made party activists restless.

After defeating the BJP in Kasba Peth and after being elected as an MLA, Dhangekar had visited Mumbai and had said that Raj Thackeray has a heart of gold.

After listening to Bal Thackeray’s speeches and being impressed with his style of working, Dhangekar joined the Shiv Sena. While working as an office-bearer of Shiv Sena, he took part in many agitations. Dhangekar always fought for the rights of the common man. After the revolt by Raj Thackeray, he joined the MNS. In 2009 and 2014, he contested the election on the MNS ticket. In both the elections, Dhangekar lost by a narrow margin because of a triangular contest. However, after a few years, he left MNS and joined the Congress.

Dhangekar, who has been elected as a corporator five times, has a strong public outreach. Even if a citizen calls him at midnight, Dhangekar responds immediately. Despite working as a corporator for many years, he prefers to use a two-wheeler. This ensures that he knows the problems of the people and is always busy in trying to solve them and this has helped to strengthen his bond with the people.
