Pune News | MLA Bhimrao Tapkir Demands Statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Chandni Chowk

Pune: Pune News | In a fervent plea made during today’s Legislative Assembly session, Khadakwasla MLA Bhimrao Tapkir urged the installation of a full-length equestrian statue of the iconic Maratha warrior king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, at the Chandni Chowk flyover area in the Khadakwasla Constituency.

The construction of the flyover and its accompanying alternative service roads in the Chandni Chowk area is reaching its final stages, with the inauguration expected shortly. As Chandni Chowk stands as a crucial traffic junction on the busy Mumbai-Bengaluru route passing through Pune city, it presents a prime opportunity to honor the great Maratha ruler and inspire the millions who traverse this route daily.

Adjacent to the upcoming flyover stands the esteemed National Defense Prabodhini, a renowned training institute responsible for nurturing and grooming young students to become officers in the Indian Defense Forces. MLA Tapkir has proposed that the installation of a majestic equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at this strategic location would symbolize valor, leadership, and serve as an inspiration for the nation’s future defenders.

To this effect, MLA Tapkir has written to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) administration, urging them to allocate substantial funds for this significant undertaking. While the demand for this tribute to the revered ruler holds immense importance, the Municipal Commissioner is yet to grant the required funding for the noble initiative.

In light of the urgency and significance of the matter, MLA Bhimrao Tapkir implores the government to issue an immediate directive to the Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation, ensuring prompt action for the installation of the equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Chandni Chowk.

The Assembly session witnessed the Khadakwasla MLA’s heartfelt plea, emphasizing the historical and cultural significance of honoring Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj through this grand gesture.
