Pune News | Danger on Sinhagad Road! Citizens Demand Immediate Action After Substantial Part of Bridge Gets Damaged

Pune: Pune News | A bridge near DIAT on Sinhagad road, adjacent to the Khadakwasla dam, has suffered a significant collapse, posing a grave threat to the safety of commuters. The damage of the bridge and the support of the protective wall has made this route perilous for traffic. Despite the dangerous condition of the bridge, thousands of tourists and locals continue to use it as there is no alternative road, raising the possibility of a major accident.

Citizens are expressing their concerns and demanding immediate action to prevent potential loss of life. The Public Works Department’s temporary repairs have proved insufficient, leading to the hazardous state of the bridge. The narrow width of the bridge, in contrast to the wide roads on both sides, has been a contributing factor in numerous accidents.

Earlier, the Public Works Department had filled the bridge with soil in cement sacks as a temporary measure. Tragically, on December 3, 2022, a bike rider sustained severe injuries after slipping from these sacks and colliding with a cliff during the night. Despite this incident, the sanctioned work for the bridge was not promptly completed, further jeopardizing the safety of commuters.

With the ongoing rains, a substantial part of the bridge has now collapsed, along with the base of the retaining wall, leading to its cave-in. This situation is not only posing a risk to local residents but also to the large number of tourists who frequent the area. As this bridge serves as the only road for several villages in the Sinhagad and Panshet regions, urgent measures must be taken to address the safety concerns.
