Pune News | Auto Rickshaw Drivers Charging Exorbitant Fares at Pune Railway Station: Prepaid Booths to be Restarted

Pune : Pune News | Instances of auto rickshaw drivers charging exorbitant fares from passengers at Pune railway station have come to the forefront, sparking complaints and concerns among railway passengers. In response to this issue, prepaid booths will soon be reintroduced at the railway station to prevent passengers from being cheated.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, prepaid booths were initially established to address the issue. However, they were temporarily closed as the virus situation improved. Following the closure of these booths, some auto rickshaw drivers resumed charging unfair fares, leading to continuous complaints from passengers. To tackle this problem, the railway administration proposed the revival of prepaid booths.

A meeting was conducted, attended by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Dr. Milind Hirve, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vijay Kumar Magar, Assistant Regional Transport Officer Sujit Dongaljal, and representatives from auto rickshaw associations. During the meeting, the railway administration proposed the implementation of prepaid booths to ensure convenience for passengers. The auto rickshaw associations responded positively to this proposal.

A committee has been formed comprising representatives from the Railways, Traffic Police, Regional Transport Office, and five representatives from auto rickshaw associations. This committee will make the final decision regarding the reintroduction of prepaid booths. The upcoming committee meeting is expected to determine the fate of the prepaid booth system.

“Pune Railway Department is enthusiastic about the initiation of prepaid auto rickshaw booths,” stated Dr. Ramdas Bhise, Public Relations Officer of the Pune Division of Central Railway.

The reintroduction of prepaid booths at Pune railway station is a welcome move that aims to address the issue of auto rickshaw drivers overcharging passengers. By implementing this system, passengers will have a fair and transparent fare system, ensuring a hassle-free travel experience.
