Pune: Man dies by suicide allegedly over unemployment near Khadakwasla Dam

Pune: A 27-year-old man died by suicide allegedly due to unemployment and frustration near Khadakwasla Dam. His body was found floating on water body after which Haveli Police and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority fire brigade personnel removed the body from Khadakwasla dam.

 

The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Maruti Naik (27 years old, resident of Kondhve Dhavade, originally from Nagpur).  According to Sanjay’s elder brother, Narendra Naik, he had left home on Monday (January 25). Later, Narendra lodged a missing person report with Uttam Nagar Police station when Sanjay did not return home after two days.

 

On January 28, around noon, civil engineer Dattatraya Kapase, workers Vasant Thacker, Sagar Kadu, and Vishnu Dhondge of the Khadakwasla Authority found a body floating near the dam’s wall. They immediately informed Haveli Police Station. And Constable Malhari Raut informed the fire brigade of Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority.

 

PMRDA’s Nanded City Fire Station Officers Sujit Patil, Omkar Ingwale, Prasad Jivde and Vishal Ghode recovered the body from the dam. Home guards Praveen Ghule, Shantaram Rathod, Satyam Kale, and Nikhil Poman, who were deployed for security near Khadakwasla dam, also assisted in retrieving the bodies. The body has been shifted to Sassoon Hospital for further investigation and an investigation is underway by Uttam Nagar Police Station.
