Pune: Fraudsters Exploit Religious Faith, Defraud Elderly Victim of 5.37 Crore

Pune: By luring individual about religious virtues, liberations from this materialistic world, and the promise of attainment of heaven after death, fraudsters from the Gultekdi areas duped a senior citizen to a staggering 5 crore, 37 lakh, and 90 thousand rupees. This shocking incident took place in Mayfair Eleganza Phase 2, NIBM Road, Kondhwa, between October 17, 2018 and April 11, 2024.

In this regard, Dr. Ahmad Ali Inam Ali Qureshi (67), a resident of Row House No. 20, Mayfair Eleganza Phase 2, NIBM Road, Kondhwa, has filed a complaint at Kondhwa Police Station on Friday, April 12. Accordingly, a case has been registered under IPC 420, 406, 323, 406, and 34 against Sadiq Abdulmajeed Sheikh, Yasmin Sadiq Sheikh, Etesham Sadiq Sheikh, Ammar Sadiq Sheikh (all residents of Harmony Society, Gultekdi), and Raj Adhaav alias Narsu.

The plaintiff is a doctor by profession. As per the information, the accused’s wife, Yasmin, and children, Etesham and Ammar, maintained good relations with the plaintiff. The accused gained the trust of the plaintiff’s family by telling them some religious teachings.

As the plaintiff and his family started believing the accused, Sadiq Sheikh, started propagating his views on detachment from worldly possession and delving on oneself for spiritual upliftment,. Falsely cheating the individual in these things, the accused time and again transferred 11 land properties of the plaintiff to their names.

Furthermore, assets worth crores of rupees, like cash, gold articles, gold biscuits, etc., were also taken by the plaintiff and his family. The accused conspired and cheated the plaintiff to the tune of Rs 5 crore, 37 lakh, and 90 thousand. After realising that they had been cheated, the plaintiff demanded their money back. However, the accused refuse to pay their money back. Accordingly, the plaintiff lodged a complaint against the accused at Kondhwa Police Station. Further investigation is being conducted by Police Inspector (Crime) Patil.
