27 shops sealed, a playground seized by PMC, the properties were rented out by civic body

Pune : NpNews24 OnlinePune Corporation | The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sealed its 27 shops, whose occupants defaulted on property tax payment. It has also seized its playground rented out to the Purandar Technical Education Society in Ambegaon Budruk. The 27 defaulters have outstanding property tax bills amounting to Rs 3.28 crore.

The civic body has its own properties in various parts of the city. Most of these properties have been seized under the R7 rule. At some places, the PMC has built shops and have given them on rent. The civic administration has been trying hard to find new revenue sources and has been successful to certain extent. The PMC estate department has prepared a list of its properties given on rent. A list of the properties, where rent agreements have expired or have not been prepared, has been updated. Their agreement renewals or floating a fresh tender for properties to be rented out are being expedited.

Recovery of pending dues is being made. However, those occupants who are not paying outstanding dues are being sealed. Among the sealed properties include three shops from Ravivar Peth, shop no. 5 from Dhere Udyog Bhavan on Tilak road, shop no. 2 from Wakdewadi, 13 shops rented out to Priyankaji Mahila Udyog in Ghorpade Peth, six shops from Savarkar Bhavan and three shops from Hule Complex in Yerwada. The highest outstanding dues of Rs 1.05 crore were with Premchand Bafna, who took on rent the shop from Dhere Bhavan on Tilak road. The outstanding dues from the six shop occupants were Rs 1.40 crore. This was revealed by estate department head and deputy municipal commissioner Rajendra Muthe.

A playground was rented out at Ambegaon Budruk to the Purandar Technical Education Society. Citizens complained that they were not allowed to enter the playground for a morning walk. Local citizens demanded that they should be allowed to do exercise at the playground and children should be allowed to play as there is no playground in the area. The institute and local citizens had a dispute over this issue. Civic officials said the playground has been taken back by the civic body.
