Pune Congress | Congress leaders, activists resolve to work for religious and social unity; Mohan Joshi organises ‘Social Unity’ programme on birthday of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge

PUNE: Pune Congress |  Former MLA and Gandhian philosopher Ulhas Pawar said, “Today, while blessing President of the Congress Party, Mallikarjun Kharge on his birthday, religious leaders from all religions also tried to spread the message of equality and peace and this is important. Some political parties today are trying to disturb the religious unity in the country and we should oppose them. The country needs religious and social unity and we should resolve to work towards achieving that on the birthday of Congress Party President Mallikarjun Kharge from Jedhe Mansion.”

He was speaking as the President of ‘Social Unity’ meeting at the historic Jedhe Mansion on the occasion of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s birthday. Pandit Tejas Laxman Saptarshi, Gyani Amarjit Singh, Moulana Ajran Govar Saab, Upali Bodhi, Reverend Sudhir Chavan and organiser of ‘Social Unity’ meeting MPCC Vice-President and former MLA Mohan Joshi, MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, former minister of state for home Ramesh Bagwe, Datta Bahirat, Sanjay Balgude, Virendra Kirad, Bhimrao Patole, Ramesh Aiyyar, Nuruddin Somji etc were present.

Ulhas Pawar pointing out the importance of Jedhe Mansion, said that the situation in the country is very serious. “In Manipur, atrocities are being committed on our sisters for three months. The Centre and the state government have failed to tackle the situation in the state. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has given a message of religious unity and understanding and everyone should support him,” he said.

India means unity in diversity

Vice-President of State Congress and former MLA Mohan Joshi greeted Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and said, “During the freedom struggle, people from all religions and castes fought unitedly against the British. The entire society fought against the British by forgetting differences over castes and religions. Now, 75 years after independence, the rulers are trying to divide the society on the basis of religion and caste. Let us resolve to prevent these anti-national powers from coming to power on the birthday of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Different religions and castes is a unique feature of India and there is unity in diversity. The Congress Party has maintained unity in diversity. However, the ruling party is creating a divide in society to remain in power. When such a divide is created, what it can lead to has been demonstrated by happenings in Manipur. To ensure that such incidents are not repeated, we should always defeat such forces.”

All religious leaders expressed their opinion and said that social and religious unity is the true identity of India.

The programme was compered by Suresh Kamble and Kanhoji Jedhe presented a vote of thanks.
