Porn on Diwali ? Big No ! Indians say no to porn on festivals

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE –  Indians love porn and this is a proven fact as India has the 3rd highest viewers for porn websites. Even when Indian government has banned porn website from India people have found their way out of this problem as they are watching porn even when the ban is on. But they don’t like to watch it at the festivals as they like to keep the festivals holy.

India’s traffic to adult sites drops significantly on festivals like Diwali. India ranks third in the world in terms of pornography viewership. The book, India Connected authored by Ravi Agrawal, also explains how cheap smartphones and data have revolutionized India’s digital behavior.

In the chapter, Searching for Sunny-The Rise of Pornography, the writer cites popular porn site pornhub.com’s 2016 report, claiming Indians seem to stop looking at porn on religious holidays.

There was a 17 per cent drop in traffic from India on the Hindu holiday of Diwali and a 15 percent drop the day Ramadan began, it says. Sunday also remains a low-traffic day in India but Saturday witnesses heavy traffic. An increase in traffic occurs on Independence Day and Republic Day.

Pornhub’s 2017 report revealed India to be a crucial market. It found India to be the world’s third-biggest consumer of pornography behind only the United States and the United Kingdom. Not to forget Google’s astonishing 2016 findings.

After the tech giant installed a free Wi-Fi service at Patna’s railway station, it emerged that the location was a top national source for visits to pornographic websites.

The book also focuses on India’s growing digital reach, which has penetrated remote villages. In 2000, 20 million Indians had access to the Internet; by 2017, 465 million were online with three Indians hooked on to the Internet every second.

Category-wise, Indians searched for ‘teen porn’ the most, but it was ‘Indian’ porn that they demanded across the board. No surprise that it was Sunny Leone, and slightly Indian-looking Mia Khalifa who led the adult stars category. Surprisingly, India’s time-on-site went down to 8 minutes and 20 seconds, a drop by 70 seconds from 2015. And there was a year-on-year 2 percent surge in women watching porn – 30 percent of porn audiences on the site were female.

The only times Indians, men and women alike abstained was Diwali and Ramadan, when traffic and fell 17 and 15 percent respectively.
