PMPML adds 50 e-buses to its fleet

NPnews24 online, Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has inducted  50 electric buses (e-buses) to its fleet on Thursday.  50 new CNG buses were also inducted by the PMPML in presence of senior citizens and school children.

State Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil, Mayor Mukta Tilak, District Commissioner Saurabh Rao, Pune Smart City Chief Executive Officer Dr Rajendra Jagtap, PMPML CMD Nayana Gunde and others were present for the inaugural function.

The vehicles were sponsored by Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL) as a part of the Smart City Project. Besides this, PMPML is also scrapping 70 of its old buses. “150 buses in total were to be procured as part of the first phase. These include 25 nine-metre-long air-conditioned buses on non-BRTS routes, and and 125 vehicles (12 metres long) for the bus rapid transit system (BRTS),” an official said.

Charging points for the electric buses have been installed at the PMPML depots in Nigdi and Bhekrainagar. By the end of the year, around 350 electric buses will be inducted by the PMPML.

The e-buses will help in keeping the environment clean and will not use fuel.
