Pimpri: Three arrested for solemnising child marriage in Kalewadi

Pimpri: Three persons were booked and arrested for allegedly solemnising child marriage of a 15-year-old in Kalewadi on October 2, 2019. The incident came to light after the minor became pregnant, the police said.

According to the police, the groom, his father, and mother have been arrested in the case. The accused have been identified as son Iskapandi, father Shankar Muthu, mother Mangeshwari, all residents of Middle Street, Kila Theru, Kovilam Puram, Tamil Nadu. A 32-year-old woman has lodged a complaint in this regard.

According to the police, the accused were aware that the girl concerned was a minor. However, the accused conspired to marry Iskapandi to the 15-year-old girl.

The case was registered at AWPS Police Station at Nanguri in Tamil Nadu. However, the case has been shifted to Wakad police station.

Prohibition of Child Marriages Act came into force on November 1, 2007. The act prohibits the marriage of a girl under the age of 18 and a boy under the age of 21.
