Petrol-Diesel’s Price Hiked in These 15 States, Know the Rates in Your City

New Delhi : The central government on Wednesday increased excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 and Rs 13 per liter respectively. This increase will not affect the retail prices of petrol and diesel as this new increase will be borne by the Oil Marketing Company. But the price of auto fuel petrol and diesel has increased in at least 15 states in lockdown. Because the governments of these states have imposed VAT or Value Added Tax on petrol and diesel.

Oil marketing companies have not changed the prices of petrol and diesel after March 16. During this period, due to the drop in global demand due to lockdown in many countries, the price of Brent crude oil came down to a low of two decades. Petrol-diesel prices increased in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Noida, Gurgaon and Chandigarh amid the lockdown that began on March 25. Because the respective state governments have increased VAT to reduce the falling revenue.

Petrol and diesel prices increased in these states
States where petrol-diesel prices have increased during the lockdown are Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Tripura, Goa, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Assam, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Haryana. Apart from this, Union Territory of Chandigarh has also increased VAT.

Tax on petrol-diesel pump has increased to 70 percent, which is the highest in the world. Apart from India, only France, Germany, Italy and Britain have more than 60 percent tax on fuel.

Delhi government has also increased VAT Rs 7.1 on diesel and Rs 1.6 on petrol. That is, on the petrol which is being sold in Delhi for Rs 71.26 a liter, the public is paying a tax of Rs 49.42 and a tax of Rs 48.09 on diesel sold for Rs 69.39 a liter. The Tamil Nadu government has also increased VAT. Due to this, the price of petrol increased by Rs 3.25 per liter and the price of diesel by Rs 2.50 per liter.

The Haryana government also imposed a tax of Rs 1 per liter on petrol and 1.1 per liter on diesel to increase revenue. In Uttar Pradesh, now you have to pay more Rs 2 per liter for petrol and Rs 1 per liter for diesel. Other states like Maharashtra, Karnataka and West Bengal had increased VAT from 1 April.
