Patanjali IPL 2020 : Patanjali’s Entry in IPL’s ‘Title’ Sponsorship Competition!

Mumbai : Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali is considering bidding for the sponsorship of IPL 2020. The decision has been taken after the Chinese smartphone maker VIVO’s exit, the main sponsor of the IPL. Patanjali spokesperson SK Tijarawala said that we are looking at sponsoring the IPL this year so that Patanjali can get a global market. The BCCI and VIVO decided to suspend their participation for the 2020 IPL.

Patanjali spokesperson confirmed this. He said that Patanjali is considering sending a proposal to the BCCI. Market experts believe that Patanjali can replace China’s VIVO company.

Brand strategist Harish Bijoor said, “Patanjali will benefit more than IPL due to being a small sponsor of IPL. It will also be useful for them from a national point of view, because there is an anti-China wave going on in India at this time.”

This year the IPL is to be played in the UAE. There will be no audience in the stadium. Despite this, there will be innumerable advertisements. After VIVO’s exit, BCCI is looking for new sponsors. Many names are in their mind – sponsors like Jio, Amazon, Tata Group, Dream XI, Adani Group and Education Startup Biz.

Patanjali Ayurveda under the leadership of Baba Ramdev is also one of these. In the beginning of June, Baba Ramdev came into a lot of controversy by making Coronil drug for Coronavirus. The sale was banned by the Ministry of AYUSH. He said that coronil is an immunity booster, not a drug of COVID-19.

Title sponsorship is an important part of the IPL’s business revenue, half of which is divided equally among all the eight franchises. VIVO acquired IPL title sponsorship rights for five years from 2018 to 2022 for Rs 2190 crore (Rs 440 crore each year). VIVO may return as the main sponsor next year.
