Pakistan Offers Counselor Access to India, Said – Kulbhushan Jadhav Refused to File Review Petition

Islamabad: Pakistan has made a big claim in the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav, who is imprisoned in Pakistan and has offered India the counselor access to the case. With this, Pakistan has said that Kulbhushan Jadhav has refused to file a review petition on the old decision. The Attorney General of Pakistan has said that Kulbhushan Jadhav’s review petition has been denied.

Pakistan has allowed Kulbhushan Jadhav’s father and his wife to meet him. Pakistan’s Attorney General has claimed that Kulbhushan Jadhav wants to wait for Mercy Petition instead of Review Petition.

Kulbhushan Jadhav, a retired officer of the Indian Navy is in jail in Pakistan. Despite explicit instructions from the International Court of Justice, Pakistan was not allowing India to meet Kulbhushan Jadhav. India used the ‘back channel’ to persuade Pakistan to release Kulbhushan Jadhav.

India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval had made a ‘very civilized request’ to then Pakistani NSA Nasir Khan Janjua that Pakistan should release Kulbhushan Jadhav.

Harish Salve had said that, “We were hoping that use of the ‘back-channel’ would convince Pakistan to release him. They could call it a step or anything based on humanity but we wanted him back. We told them to let him go. But this is a big ego problem in Pakistan, so we were hoping that they would let him go but they did not.”

Harish Salve had said that Pakistan has made it a matter of pride. We have written many letters to Pakistan but they always deny it.

Salve said, “I think we have reached the point where we may have to decide whether we should go to the international court again so that Pakistan can be given directions once again. Pakistan has not moved even one step on the previous order.”

PAK not following ICJ instructions
Earlier, in July 2019, the Netherlands-based international court had given permission to allow consular contact for Kulbhushan Jadhav while passing judgment in favor of India after hearing for almost 26 months. Also, it was asked to provide an opportunity for hearing in the civilian court of Jadhav’s case.
