Overnight stay banned at Rajgad Fort in district
Pune : NpNews24 Online – Rajgad Fort | Tourists have been banned from overnight stay at Rajgad Fort, a State Protected Monument in Velhe Taluka of the district. The ban has been imposed on behalf of the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums. According to the ban order, tourists and any person cannot stay overnight in the area of Rajgad Fort, a state protected monument. A copy of this order is placed on a plaque on the facade of the monument. (Rajgad Fort)
Many tourists visit Rajgad. Some stay at the fort overnight. They cook food there and throw waste around. Some defecate near historical places, as a result dirt and stench has increased at the fort. Due to the threat to the sanctity of the fort, tourists and people have been banned from staying at night.
Violation of the rule invites punishment
Any tourist/person violating these rules shall be punished under Section 33 (1) of the Maharashtra Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1960 with imprisonment for three months or with fine of Rs 5000 or with both.
