NIA to join probe in Sushant Singh Rajput death case

Mumbai: Now the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is set to join the investigation of film actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case. The central government has now approved the NIA to investigate drug related cases in SSR death case.

NIA will become the fourth central agency to be involved after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) got involved in the high profile SSR death case.

The revenue department of the finance ministry has issued a notification on Tuesday which states that under Section 53 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, the Central government in consultation with the States, invites officers above the rank of Inspector in the NIA to exercise their powers and perform their duties. This section allows the government to give powers to any officer to investigate crimes under this Act. Senior government officials have confirmed that this could be a major reason for the NIA probe into the drug case related to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.

The NCB investigation into the drug case has revealed many important links to Sushant Singh Rajput death case. Parts of conversation between Deepika Padukone and her manager Karishma Prakash have come to light on Monday. Whatsapp chats have revealed that codenames D for Deepika and K for Karisma were being used. The conversation between Deepika and Karisma was done on October 28, 2017. Now the name of Dia Mirza has come to the fore. NCB will soon send summons to these two actresses.

Meanwhile, the CBI team is landing in Mumbai for a week to take up the investigation of the Sushant Singh Rajput case to the final stage. After 21 consecutive days of investigation in the Sushant case, the CBI team had returned to Delhi a few days ago. For the last three days, meetings have been held at the CBI headquarters regarding the results of the investigation so far. The CBI has reportedly not yet found any concrete evidence to prove that Sushant was killed. The CBI is now investigating whether the Disha Salian death case has any connection with SSR death case.

According to sources, the AIIMS forensic team is going to submit its report to the CBI next week. Sources said that the forensic team has been instructed to mention only those things in their report which can be proved in court.
