Mumbai: Chembur man makes fake currency with the help of YouTube videos, arrested

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has arrested a 35-year-old man who allegedly printed fake Indian currency notes with a face value of nearly Rs 4 lakh after seeing some tutorials on YouTube. Police said the man was trying to sell and circulate the fake currency through some agents in the city.

657 Counterfeit currency notes in denominations of Rs 500, 200, 100 and 50, and with a face value of Rs 55,450, were recovered from his on the spot, the official said.

The accused has been identified as Mohammad Zakiyan Ayub Khan. He is a resident of Chembur area of Mumbai.

A printer, ink and papers used in printing counterfeit notes were also recovered from his home, the official said.

Senior Inspector Ninad Sawant received input that a person was going to deliver fake currency at a spot on Mahul road in Chembur on Tuesday.

“Khan was interrogated and he revealed that he was debt-ridden and thought of printing fake currency to get rid of his debt and make easy money. He learnt the printing technique through YouTube videos. Initially, he failed but later succeeded in printing the fake currency,” said an officer privy to the investigation.
