Floods and torrential rains in Kerala have led to disaster. The condition of the state is very bad. This rain has broken the record of the past 100 years. So far, 324 people have been killed and more than three lakh people have been homeless since floods.

Chengannur – Rescue Operation Started at Most Affected Area After MLA’s Appeal

Chalakudy and Chennur have full flows of water but rescue operations had not started. Chengannur legislative member Saji Cheriyan has made an emotional appeal to the government. Expressing concern over the current situation of Chengannur, the MLA said that if they will not get any help, more people can be killed.

On August 17, Communist Party MLA from Chengannur, Saji Cheriyan, appealed to PM Narendra Modi to help. He described his situation in the Vidhan Sabha constituency and said, “Please tell Mr Modi, we need a helicopter.” We are asking for help from Navy for the last 4 days, but we are getting zero responsey. We have not been provided any help till now. Now the only solution is the AirLift, please, please, please. “

According to the reports, Navy has sent 10 boats to Chengannur after the request of MLA Saji Cheriyan. CM P Vijayan on Friday also admitted that Chengannur is one of the worst affected areas in flood. According to CM, due to the heavy floods, there is a lot of problems in the area of operation.

PM Modi Held Meeting with Kerala CM and Other Ministers

It is worth mentioning that PM had arrived to Kerala on Friday evening after attending the funeral of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. PM Modi will do the aerial survey of flood affected areas on August 18.

Prime Minister Modi held a meeting with Kerala Chief Minister P Vijayan and other ministers to know about the flood situation. He has announced a relief package of Rs 500 crore to Kerala.

On the other hand, the Meteorological Department declared heavy rain alert in Tamilnadu and Karnataka along with Kerala till Sunday.

According to media reports, Modi’s aerial survey is likely to be cancelled. However, this news has not been confirmed yet. PM Modi held a meeting with Chief Minister P Vijayan, Union Minister KJ Alphons and other officials in Kochi.

80 thousand people displaced due to flood in Kerala. That includes 70,000 people from Ernakulam. The NDRF team is deployed for the rescue work with the army. Due to heavy rains, in the last few days, the state had to open 80 gates of small and big dames. Loss of Eight thousand crore rupees have been occurred due to floods in Kerala. 55 people have died in Kerala since last two days.

IAS Officers Helps for Relief Work

Meanwhile, a picture is being viral, in which an IAS officer is raising rice bags and helping the victims. It can be seen in the picture that they have carried rice bags on their shoulders and they reaching relief camps. On the other hand, the army and emergency teams have been helping the people trapped in the flood.

Their work was also noticed by the IAS Association and was tweeted for these words:

“Setting an example! G Rajamanikyam IAS & NSK Umesh IAS Sub-Collector, Wayanad unloading rice bags at Collectorate, Wayanad for distribution to Relief Camps. Joined hands with other employees, at around 9.30 pm unload a vehicle full of rice bags.”

Whose photos on social media is getting viral, special officer G. Rajamanikiyam is working with an emergency team and the sub-collector NSK Umesh who is seen lifting the rice bags on the shoulder.

At 9:30pm, a truck filled with relief material arrived when according to the report, labours were sleeping at night after working all day. Showing that, officers started distribution work and lifted the rice bags on their own.

Kerala CM Requests for Relief Fund

Chief Minister P Vijayan requested for people’s help by sharing the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund Account Number with Twitter. Punjab and Delhi government announced to provide help of Rs 10 crores. There was a shortage of oxygen in hospitals between the situation of worst disaster.

Most petrol pumps have been closed. In many areas, drinking water is a major problem. Railway has dispatched drinking water tankers in the state. 17 trains running between Karnataka and Kerala were also canceled.

On Friday a pregnant woman was airlifted by a naval helicopter. The woman delivered a baby in the army hospital.

Bollywood Stars Helps to Spread Awareness by Sharing Helpline Number

All the Bollywood actors including Varun Dhawan, Anushka Sharma and Abhishek Bachchan shared the helpline number. They also asked people to come forward for help. People living abroad have been worried about the families trapped in the flood. They are requesting help from TV channels and social media.

Home Minister Visited Flood Affected Areas

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has also done air survey of flood affected areas in Kerala in the last few days. He said that the central government will help the people of Kerala in this difficult situation. He also said that the help of Rs 100 crores have been announced by centre. However, Chief Minister P Vijayan has demanded Rs 8316 crore relief package from the government.

Meteorological Department Issues Red Alert

The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in Kerala till Sunday, August 19. A red alert has been issued in 13 of the 14 districts of the state. The situation is very bad in Kasaragod, Idukki, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Ernakulam district.

Due to flood in Periyar river, the majority of the city’s areas, including Kochi airport have been submerged. The airport will be closed till August 26. Due to rain, landslides have occurred in many places in Idukki, Malappuram and Kannur districts.
