Mahatma Gandhi’s great-grandson dies of coronavirus, breathed last in South Africa

New Delhi : Mahatma Gandhi’s great-grandson Satish Dhupelia, who lived in South Africa, has died in Johannesburg after contracting the coronavirus. He breathed his last on Sunday. According to a family member, Satish Dhupelia’s 66th birthday was just three days ago.

According to the information received, Satish Dhupelia’s sister Uma Dhupelia has confirmed the death of her brother due to coronavirus. She said that Satish Dhupelia had been undergoing treatment for pneumonia at the hospital for the last one month, during which he contracted corona.

Uma said on social media that my brother died of the disease a month later due to pneumonia. He came in contact with the superbug during treatment at the hospital and also contracted Covid-19. He had a cardiac arrest in the evening.

Apart from Uma, Satish Dhupelia has another sister named Kirti Menon. She also lives in Johannesburg. Here he is active in various projects honoring the memory of Mahatma Gandhi. Three siblings are descendants of Manilal Gandhi, who was kept in South Africa by Mahatma Gandhi to continue his work after returning to India two decades later.
