Maha police form SIT to probe Cosmos Bank hacking case

A day after the major security breach of the Cosmos Bank after some unidentified person hacked Rs 94.42 crore amount from different account and withdrawn the cash in Hong-Kong, the Maharashtra state Police along with Pune police and few private cyber expert have formed SIT to probe the case.

A major security breach has struck at Cosmos Bank which came to light on Tuesday, where an unidentified persons hacked the bank server and transferred Rs 94.42 crores and withdrawn them in Hong-Kong. Such amount was withdrawn past two days and on the third day the Bank officials realized there was malware attack and registered the case.

The Panic citizen in Pune city has created amongst them after they were not able to withdrawn the case the bank officials claim that two days the ATM will be closed and nothing will hamper the account holder amount.

According to the Bank officials statement, there was malware attack through the computer on their systems.

The incident came to light after the Cosmos Bank managing director Suhas Gokhale (53), has lodged a complaint with Chaturshringi police station against unidentified persons and Asset and Liabilities (ALM) Trading Limited, Hong Kong as Rs 13.92 crores was transferred to their account with Hong Kong Bank located in Hong Kong under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code comprises of offenses under sections 420 (cheating), 379 (theft), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 34 (common intention) and relevant sections of Information Technology (IT) Act on Tuesday. The incident took place August 11 till August 13. On Saturday around 5 pm Suresh Kumar spoke to the Visa e-solutions Private Limited legislative officer, Arti Dhole who alerted that some suspicious transaction taking place. They informed about their doubts to MD Gokhale and the chairman Milind Kale.

On Wednesday, Maharashtra police director General of Police formulated an Special Investigation team (SIT) and Brijesh Singh

charge as Maharashtra Police’s cybersecurity head and official CISO of the department – designated special Inspector General-Women Atrocity Prevention & Cybercrime, a special authority created by the Maharashtra government to tackle cyber threats attended the meeting.

Singh admitted a meeting in Pune and said, “Under the guidance of DG we along with cyber expert and Pune police will be formulated SIT to probe.”

In the meantime Milind Kale chairman of the bank has appeal citizen to support them and not to get panic or fall pray to rumors. He said,”bank is 112 year old and we are financially strong. Account holders will not face any issue as their money is safe. The account holders can approach respective areas branch and withdraw the cash thou the ATM are still closed for security reasons. Even the account holders from their respective branches can gain information about their account details.”
