Lohgad | Tourists Stranded at Lohgad in Lonavala Due to Huge Crowd, No Stampede Reported

Pune : Lohgad | A massive crowd gathered at Lohgad in the scenic Lonavala area, leading to the unfortunate situation of thousands of tourists being stranded for approximately four hours. Thankfully, amidst the chaos, there were no reports of a stampede occurring.

As Sunday drew in, a significant number of people flocked to the historic fort to enjoy the rainy weather. Disturbing video footage revealed the overcrowding, with barely any space to move. This incident highlights the recurring issue faced every year at Lohgad. Adequate planning is crucial both at the foot of the fort and within its premises. It is imperative that authorities, including the police, ensure their presence in such locations to prevent such incidents.

Lonavala and the surrounding Maval area have been experiencing heavy rainfall, resulting in the formation of numerous small and large waterfalls. With it being a weekend, tourists from Pune, Mumbai, Pimpri Chinchwadya, and other districts of Pune flocked to popular destinations like Lonavala, Khandala, Lohgad, and Bhaje to witness the monsoon magic. The overwhelming number of visitors led to a massive crowd at Lohgad, leaving tourists with no room to navigate. Consequently, a situation arose where they were stranded for approximately four hours, unable to find even a place to stand. Eventually, through collective efforts, they managed to coordinate their exit and safely descended from the fort.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the lack of effective planning that continues to plague Lohgad, demanding immediate attention from both the authorities in Lonavla city and the rural police. Failing to address such issues could result in unfortunate stampede incidents, potentially claiming lives. Tourists, too, must exercise caution and use their discretion, avoiding crowded areas whenever possible.
