Gurugram sets up team to tackle illegal biz practices

Gurugram, May 24 (IANS) The Gurugram authorities are keeping an eagle eye on units attempting to make money out of the coronavirus crisis.”As most departments are busy in detection and containment of coronavirus in the city, we have set up a dedicated team under the food and civil supply division (enforcement wing) to keep a tab on them,” said Amit Khatri, Gurugram District Magistrate. They busted fake hand sanitizer units in Pataudi and Maneser on April 30 and March 12, respectively. In case of Pataudi, the raiding team, led by Drugs Control Officer Amandeep Chauhan, seized around 3,000 litres of sanitizer packed in bottles of different sizes and 3,000 litres of raw material for making sanitizer. The company failed to produce any purchase record of the material. The Gurugram Food and Drugs Administration Department had earlier busted a similar illegal unit in Manesar and recovered hand sanitizers worth Rs 50 lakh. The spread of coronavirus has created a huge market for hand sanitizers, sanitizers for other purposes, antiseptic liquid and face masks.Meanwhile, the Gurugram administration has allowed 1,330 industrial units to resume operations under the relaxation given in fourth phase of lockdown. It has allowed 1,06,751 employees to resume their jobs in these units. In the construction sector, 96 pending projects have been allowed to restart construction.Migration of a large number of labourers to their home states and districts is also posing a challenge for industrial cities like Gurugram.–IANSstr/
