Mumbai: Ganeshotsav is the next big festival after Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami. This year, this auspicious festival is starting from August 22 i.e. Bhadrapad Shukla Paksha Chaturthi. On this day devotees do Ganesh Sthapana at their home. It is said that Lord Ganapati takes away the sufferings of his devotees. Lord Ganesha is immersed 10 days later on Anant Chaturdashi. Lord Ganesha is considered as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.
Ganesh Chaturthi Date and Time –

According to the Amanta as well as Purnimanta Hindu calendar, Ganesh Chaturthi is observed on the Shukla Paksha Chaturthi or the fourth day of the fortnight between the new moon and the full moon of Bhadrapada. Amanta and Purnimanta are the two basic units of the Hindu calendar used in India.

Ganesh Sthapana Timing –

It is good to do Ganesh Sthapana in auspicious time on Ganesh Chaturthi. This year, Chuturti will start at 11:02 am on August 21. Chuturti Tithi will continue till 7:57 pm on 22 August. Ganesh Sthapana can be done at any time other than Rahu Kaal. The auspicious time of Poojan is at 12:45 pm.

Ganesh Visarjan is on September 1.

Food is a big part of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Many kinds of sweets are prepared for Lord Ganesha. After offering puja, prashad is distributed among family and friends. Modak, Til and Jaggery Laddu, Besan Laddu and Motichoor Laddu are a must for Lord Ganesha.
