AISA approaches education minister for  cancellation of CBSE compartment exams

The All India Students Association (AISA) wrote a letter to Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and education ministers of all states asking not to hold the compartment exams. The reasons for opposing holding of any exam is the pandemic. The union wrote letters on behalf of students who had failed in a subject with a margin of one to seven marks.

The letter mentions, “Students feel cheated as a large number of candidates have been granted marks without having to sit for exams’. These marks are just distributed without having to perform.” The students demand grace marks and are to be promoted on the basis of internal assessment.

AISA also refers to economic problems of students. According to the letter, students had taken provisional admission in college and paid first year fees, they might lose the money. Another reason for opposing exams is that Bihar, Assam and Mumbai are facing floods, for the students it will be unfair to do so as there are lack of resources to get guidance for appearing exams again. The pandemic and floods are considered to be risk factors on the lives of students and parents if exams are conducted. Other than this, mental health issues are also raised by AISA against conducting the exams.

However, CBSE had earlier stated, if the compartment exams are not conducted, the future of a large number of candidates will be affected. Even as the board was receiving requests for not holding compartmental exams, these requests cannot be  agreed by the CBSE.

The compartment exams are organised for students who have failed or not happy with their marks given on the basis of a new assessment scheme. CBSE has also assured the exams will be conducted with full precautions.
