Former CM of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan addressed a Press meet held in Pune on August 20 in which he said, “Government has rules under constitution against the unlawful activities, according to which they can ban such organizations. Once RSS was also banned. Similarly Sanatan Sastha should also be banned in whole state which we had appealed in April, 2011. Implementation can be done only by the government.”

He further added that “In my tenure, the rule was not passed, but this is my appeal to the new state and central government to take the decision. Congress had legally asked that ‘will the government proceed to ban the government this year?’, for which we haven’t got a concrete answer.”

While Chavan was in power, a report was received stating the unlawful activities of Sanatan Sanstha. After studying those reports, in April 2011, Maharashtra Government had sent a proposal to the Delhi Government to impose the country wise ban under Unlawful Activities Prevention Law on Sanatan Sanstha. Conversely, the discussion was also on process and provided to centre on the issue. In 2013, another detailed report was sent. Then from August onwards, the murder chain was started.

Crusader of anti-superstition was shot dead on August 20, 2013 by two unknown bike borne and one suspect has been arrested in this case from Aurangabad in Maharashtra. Chavan was the first person at that time to point fingers on Sanatan Sanstha exactly after an hour of the incident.

Not only this, on February 16, 2015, Comrade Govind Pansare was also brutally attacked while he was on morning walk with his wife near his residence. On February 20, 2015, Pansare was declared dead. And in 2017, two murders took place in Dharwad and Bangalore. This time the victims were M M Kalburgi and Gauri Lankesh.

Primary investigation was done by Pune police and then the same was handed over to Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). Later when in 2015, family of Dr Dabholkar filed the petition, the case was finally investigated by Crime Branch Investigation (CBI) team.

Sachin Andure has been arrested as one of the suspects of this case based on the sketch made by the description of eye-witness. In his investigation, he has given the statement that the mastermind of these murders was Amol Kale who has studied Diploma and has the profession of selling books on Hindu and Vedic cultures.

Now there are two big questions against the government, one is to bring the face of the murderer in front of country and give him a strict punishment, another is, the secret organization Sanatan Sanstha and these many people working with it who are not unknown and which has created a such big conspiracy in nation is working in state, in Goa, and in Karnatak is must needed to be banned.

Prithviraj Chavan further said that, “Government somehow is ignoring the demand of the ban on Sanatan Sanstha. I feel the environment of back-support of someone powerful to this sanstha. That’s why the government is needed to share their views on the demand of ban on Sanatan Sanstha.”

Along with former chief minister, Ashok Chavan, State President of Congress was also present who said, “Sanatan Sanstha’s activities should be banned. We had asked for the ban when we were the ruling government in Maharashtra, but the process of this is very lengthy, before banning any organization, approval from each states in the country is required that’s why this could not be completed at that time. Government brings the issue of Ram Mandir when the elections are near, temple will be constructed but they are unaware of the date which continues since very long.”

The Congress will undertake a Jan Sangh Yatra in West Maharashtra from 31st August to 8th September. Inaccurate policies of the central and state government will be kept in front of the public.
