First Plasma Bank opened in Telangana

Hyderabad: The first plasma bank has been opened in Telangana. This comes in effect after plasma treatment has been effective in recovering people from coronavirus infection. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kishan Reddy launched the Plasma Bank under the initiative of Rotary Club, Hyderabad.

Kishan Reddy said, ‘I am grateful to the rotary club for such initiative. Plasma therapy is the only hope for people till the time vaccines are not launched in the market’.

Further added, ‘ there is no vaccine available for coronavirus, you have to keep yourself safe from the virus. The state has taken several measures to fight the virus, and this plasma bank is one of them. Plasma Bank is the first bank launched in Hyderabad’.

Plasma treatment is a procedure where plasma from the blood of a recovered COVID-19 patient is transfused to a critically ill coronavirus patient. COVID-19 recovered patient develops antibodies which can help another patient fight the infection. Reddy has encouraged recovered individuals to come forward and donate plasma, this will help to save life. He said, ‘today is an important day as a record number of 10,25,000 tests were conducted in a single day. This is good but we should do better’.

The plasma therapy has worked effectively in managing the spread of the virus in Delhi. It has proved to be a successful model. The PM has urged all other states to follow it.
