How should a Hindu celebrate any festival in Pakistan? Yes, you heard it right. Dr. Mahesh Kumar Malani became the first Non-Muslim candidate to win a general election seat from Tharparkar province Sindh in National Assembly-222 Constituency. Tharparkar is one of the 29 districts of Sindh Province.

In year 2002, Pakistan witnessed changes in law where Non-Muslims got rights to vote and contest election. According to the Express Tribune news, Pakistan Peoples Party’s, Malani is minister of Minority Community where he has secured 37,245 votes against Arbab Zakaullah’s 18,323 votes.

The district is one of Pakistan’s most backward assembly constituencies where there is lack of development. According the survey conducted by United Nations Children Agency’s list of top 10 countries where Pakistan have the highest infant mortality rate. With 46 newborns out of 1,000 dying within the first month of their birth. Most of the numbers occurred from remote areas.

Malani has won this election defeating 14 candidates. Malani was also the first hindu to win PS-61 assembly seat of Sindhu province in the 2013 elections.

Cricketer turned Politician, Imran Khan has won the general election, 2018. On a video posted after his victory he said, “I had everything, enough wealth as a cricketer to spend my whole life with relief but the conflicts happened for last decades made me enter into politics”.
