FIR Against Two Including Journalist Devendra Jain in the Case Of Extortion By Giving False News, One Arrested

Pune :  A case has been registered against journalist Devendra Jain and two others for extorting ransom in a land transaction by giving false news. This incident occurred between 2015 and 2019.

Mohan Raju Bahirat (26, resident of Fursungi) has lodged a complaint at Hadapsar police station. A case has been registered against journalist Devendra Jain and Saddam alias Dattatraya alias Balasaheb Gulabrao Kamthe. Kamthe has been arrested by the police.

According to police, the complainant’s grandfather had given his land at Shewalwadi for sale. Someone had also bought the land. However, Saddam alias Dattatraya alias Balasaheb threatened the owner of the land to do the transaction through him or else the deal would not take place. The complainant scared of his threats also paid Rs 2 lakh 70 thousand to him. Even after that, he filed a 7/12 objection and demanded a ransom of Rs 25 lakh from the buyer and the complainant. He took Rs 5 lakh by check. Again, he also demanded Rs 1 crore to withdraw the objection petition and took another Rs 15 lakh.

The accused also conspired with journalist Devendra Jain to defame the land in June last year by giving false information such as obstruction of natural flow of illegal excavated water. The complainant was also threatened of death. Police have arrested Saddam alias Dattatraya alias Balasaheb. It is said that he has no previous record. Hadapsar police are conducting further investigations.
