DMK President M Karunanidhi Breathed his last at Kauvery Hospital Chennai

Former Tamilnadu chief minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi passed away on the evening of August 7. Kauvery Hospital had said in a medical bulletin on the evening of August 7, Karunanidhi’s health was continuously deteriorating.

Since last few hours, his condition was constantly getting worse. At present, thousands of supporters have gathered outside Kauvery Hospital. A police force has been deployed keeping in mind the security.

All the programs related to Tamil cinema are cancelled or suspended in the state. Karunanidhi was admitted to hospital for last 11 days. After complaining of urine infection and low blood pressure, he was admitted to Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital on July 27. DMK leader and his daughter Kanimozhi appealed to the supporters gathered outside the hospital to maintain peace.

In a medical bulletin declared on August, the hospital had said, “Karunanidhi’s health has worsened. Their body parts are becoming difficult to keep working. The next treatment will be possible only after the change in their condition in the next 24 hours.”

A large number of supporters of DMK leaders have gathered out of the hospital premises. Police security force has been deployed outside the hospital. On the afternoon of August 6, NCP president Sharad Pawar had reached the Kauvery hospital and received information about Karunanidhi’s health from his son Stalin and daughter Kanimozhi.

Earlier on August 4, President Ramnath Kovind had also concerned about Karunanidhi’s health. After the DMK leader’s health worsened, PM Modi had called his family members to ask about his health. Congress President Rahul Gandhi had also rushed to Kauvery Hospital.

The five-time chief minister of Tamil Nadu was rarely seen in public and mostly in his wheelchair during his rare outings. His son MK Stalin is working president of the party founded by his mentor CN Annadurai in 1949. Mr Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi is a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament. At first, his family had denied to admit him in the hospital and urged to get his treatment done at his home in Gopalapuram. But as the health of DMK leader was getting rough, he was admitted to Kauvery Hospital.
