CPEP will do rehabilitation of Patil Estate slum

PUNE: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- The Patil estate slum area is developed on the site of College Of Engineering Pune (COPE) by doing encroachment. Therefore, there is a problem in the rehabilitation of the slum under the SRA scheme. But now under the new Ordinance, the COEP has taken the initiative to rehabilitate the Patil estate slum. For this purpose, the proposal has been sent to the State board of technical education for permitting the rehabilitation of the slum in this place.

A massive fire broke out in the Patil estate slum and hundreds of huts were burnt to the ground on Wednesday. On the backdrop of this incident, the question of slum rehabilitation raised again. But the COEP’s initiative may solve this question.

The COEP is the owner of the Patil Estate slum area. The slum has been standing here by encroaching on 5 acres of land. This place has 1100 huts and more than 7 thousand people live here. Earlier, It was decided to implement slum rehabilitation scheme in this place,  COEP had objected it. As it was COEP’s private land,  COEP went to the court.

Meanwhile, the state government has decided to give benefits to the developer for the rehabilitation of slum area on private land. Therefore COEP is going to work as a developer itself here.

Apart from this, COEP has sent this proposal to the technical education department. Senior officials of the municipal corporation said that the slum rehabilitation authority will also approve it immediately after getting permission. After getting the sanction and completion of the tender process, the work is likely to start.
