Covid-19: Ravi Shastri receives first dose at Apollo Hospital

AHMEDABAD: Indian cricket team’s head coach Ravi Shastri on Tuesday received the first dose of vaccine against Covid-19.

Shastri received the jab in Ahmedabad’s Apollo Hospital. Shastri shared this information on Twitter and wrote, “ Got the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Thank you to the amazing medical professionals & scientists for empowering India against the pandemic.”

“Extremely impressed with the professionalism shown by Kantaben & her team at Apollo, Ahmedabad in dealing with COVID-19 vaccination,” Shastri added.

The second phase of vaccination drive against deadly coronavirus started in the country on March 1. Senior citizens above 60 and those above the age of 45 with co-morbidities will receive the jab.

BCCI cleared that the Indian team is playing the test series against England and no other person has got the doses of the vaccine. The fourth Test will be played in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

The 58-year-old veteran cricketer was chosen as a coach in 2017 after which the Indian team won the test series against Australia twice on their land. Ravi Shastri played 80 test matches in which he made 3,830 runs and took 151 wickets. He scored 11 centuries and 12 half-centuries in his career. He played 150 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in which he made 3,108 runs and took 129 wickets. He made four centuries and 18 half-centuries in these one-day matches.
