Coronavirus Cases Exceeds 56,000 in India, 1889 Deaths So Far

New Delhi : COVID-19 infection cases in the country reached near 56,000 on Friday as more people from other states, including Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan, have been found infected with this dangerous virus.

Total of 56351 cases have been found in the country. However, the number of people recovered also crossed 16,000. Data declared by various states and union territories shows that at least 3344 new cases have been reported across the country since Friday morning. The death toll has increased to 1889 across the country, while deaths have also been reported in paramilitary forces.

Officials said a 55-year-old head constable of the CISF posted at Mumbai International Airport succumbed to the coronavirus, while two BSF personnel have also died. There have been 41 new cases of infection in BSF, which has increased the number of infections in this force to 193. In the fight against COVID-19, a large number of health personnel and security personnel deployed on the front have been found infected with COVID-19 in recent times.

In Maharashtra alone, at least 531 policemen are infected with COVID-19 and are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the state, an official said. These include 51 officers and 480 constables. 39 of these policemen have recovered while five policemen have died. Maharashtra and Gujarat are still at the top in cases of infection, Tamil Nadu has crossed 5000 as 580 new cases a day have been reported there. The death toll in the southern state has risen to 37 as two more women died in the day due to COVID-19. A large number of new cases came out in the state are related to Koyambedu market in Chennai, which is considered as Asia’s largest vegetable market.
