Corona Outbreak in Jails of Maharashtra, Thousands Of Prisoners & 292 Prison Staff Infected So Far

Mumbai: Coronavirus continues to wreak havoc in Maharashtra. About one thousand Prisoners in prisons across the state have also been hit by the deadly virus, while so far a total of 292 Jail Staff’s reports have been Corona positive. After treatment, 814 of the total infected prisoners and 268 jail staff have been recuperating.

According to the State Prison Department, so far six prisoners have died in Maharashtra due to coronavirus infection. Meanwhile Maharashtra remains the most affected state with 1,47,820 active cases. A total of 3,81,843 people have recovered from the virus infection in the state, while 18,650 people have lost their lives.

According to the Union Health Ministry, on Thursday, the number of COVID-19 patients in India reached 24 lakh with the maximum number of 66,999 new cases. The Health Ministry said that the maximum number of 56,383 infected people in a single day has been cured. As of Thursday, there were a total of 23,96,638 cases of coronavirus, of which 6,53,622 are active cases and 16,95,982 patients have recovered and returned home. While till Thursday morning, 942 infected people lost their lives in just 24 hours. With this, the total death toll in the country has been 47,033.

According to the central government, 70.77 percent of people infected with the deadly coronavirus have recovered from the hospital and quarantine centers. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, a total of 2,68,45,688 samples of COVID-19 have been tested till Wednesday.
