Commemorating 271st raising day of Defense Accounts Department (dad)

To commemorate the existence of Defence Accounts Department as one of the oldest Departments, PCDA (SC) is organizing a “Walk” as a part of Annual Day celebration on 30^th Sept. 2018(Sunday) at 8.30 am. The purpose of the walk is to spread awareness about the work being dealt by the Department and also spread the message of “Swachchta Hi Sewa”, as part of Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan of Govt. of India. The walk will commence from the office of the PCDA (SC). And the route of the walk will be GPO—Dastur Schoool—Ambedkar statue—East street –Golibar Maidan.

There will be cultural programme as a part of DAD Day celebration on 1^st Oct. 2018(Monday) at PCDA (SC) from 10.00 am onwards and will be graced by all the senior officers and employees of the DAD.

The Defence Accounts Department traces its history way back to 1747, when the articles of war empowered British Govt. to appoint Military Pay Master followed by the appointment of first Pay Master in 1750 for paying at Garrison at Fort Williams, Calcutta.

The Defence Accounts Department has its presence in Pune since 1864, as the beautiful PCDA (SC) heritage building is located at No.1 Finance Road, opposite the Pune GPO since 1835. It is one of the premier organizations of DAD under the Ministry of Defence (Finance).

The first British officer to head the PCDA (SC) was Lieut.General Harris. And Shri.Rao Bhadur Vengue Aiyar, become the first Indian CDA in 1926.The department is proud of the fact that Shri. Vasudev Balwant Phadke “father of the Indian armed rebellion”, worked as a clerk for about 13 years in the Defence Accounts Department at Pune.

The PCDA (SC), is rendering professional services to the organization like Indian Army, DRDO, Border Road Organization, Ordnance Factories present in and around the Pune city. There are about 6 offices of DAD in Pune including the PCDA (SC), these are, PCDA (O), C of A (Fys.) Kirkee, IFA HQ (SC), Jt. CDA( R&D) Pashan, PAO(GREF). These offices are entrusted with the responsibility to ensure proper Audit, Payment and Financial Advice to the services with the strategic vision of “Best value to the Defence Services” by being a trusted and committed financial service partner.
