Antyodaya Anna Yojana : Centre Asks All States to Include Persons with Disabilities Under the Scheme

New Delhi : Now, the disabled will get 35 kg of grain per family per month. On this, Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has said that the disabled persons will also get the benefit of Antyodaya Anna Yojana. He tweeted that ‘disabled persons are not getting the benefit of ration scheme. The instructions of the Delhi High Court in this regard have been taken seriously. Now all the state governments have been ordered to include the disabled under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana.

He further informed that the Antyodaya Anna Yojana will provide 35 kg of food grains per family per month to the disabled persons. The state government is responsible for the beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration card and PHH ration card.

Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) is a scheme launched by the Central Government on 25 December 2000 under the Ministry of Food Supply and Consumer Affairs for one million poor families. The main objective of this scheme will be to provide 35 kg wheat and paddy at a very affordable rate per month to poor families or below poverty line (BPL) families.

New rules of Antyodaya Anna Yojana released
Antyodaya Anna Yojana is mainly reserved for the poor, poor families in urban and rural areas. The applicant’s family selected for Antyodaya Anna Yojana will be provided a unique quota card to get Antyodaya Ration Card recognition. During the expansion of Antyodaya Anna Yojana in the year 2003, there were clear instructions to include PwDs under this scheme in the issued guidelines. All states should ensure that no disabled is deprived of it.

The State Governments are also requested to ensure proper benefit of 5 kg additional free grain distribution per person under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) and Self-Reliant India Package to the PwDs.
