After Sabrimala, Kolkata Kali pandal prohibits entry of women

KOLKATA: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE – Now, it seems that the Sabarimala temple is not the only temple which prohibits the entry of women as a pandal in Kolkata similarly prohibits entry of women inside the pandal.

Goddess Kali who is worshipped by the Hindus which symbolizes extraordinary power and eliminating the demons and negative power. It symbolizes the strength of women and shockingly women herself are not allowed to worship the goddess as it might annoy the deity of goddess Kali.

The deity of goddess Kali Puja is worshipped since 34 years by the priests of the pandal in Tarapith, a Shakti Pith in Birbhum district of West Bengal.

And, the women of the area do not object to the 34-year-old rule. And if anyone tries to break the rule, then an uncontrollable situation will be created in the society and tragedy will occur in our locality.

The members of Chetla Pradip Sangha Puja committee in the southern part of the city said ever since the goddess is worshipped in the pandal, women are not allowed to enter in or come near the deity.

A senior member of the pandal calls it as an extreme manifestation of patriarchy and misogyny.

And, all the local male members prepare the prasad(food) and bhog been offered to the god and make all the arrangements required for the puja.

While some women devotees are against this decision, they say that if the deity is of a goddess which resembles the strength of the woman, then what is the point of prohibiting women to enter the pandal.

There are lot many temples in small-scale areas which don’t allow women to enter the temples and pandals but not all come into the light, one of the major reasons is the women herself are all right with the decision hence they never protest about this.
