NP NEWS 24 ONLINE – Heading to a footrace is often physically and mentally challenging. To make the run easy and comfortable, experts from Poonawalla Clean City Marathon bring you a few pointers that will prepare you for the long battle.

Here’s the list of things you need to have for a marathon:

1)      Comfortable apparel

Opting for sportswear like running shorts, jackets or long-sleeved pants to protect your skin from chafing. The outfit should be able to wick sweat easily so that your body remains cool.

2)      Shoes and socks

The importance of right shoes cannot be exaggerated for a runner.  Since running long-distances can be very stressful to your feet, you should choose the kind of shoes and socks according to your body type.

3)      Hydration Belt

Keeping your body hydrated during the footrace is a crucial factor which directly impacts your performance and energy. Thus, we suggest you keep a hydration belt which contains a bottle in case you don’t find any water fountain on route!

4)      Body glide and blisters

Marathoners are prone to chafing and can cause damage to your skin on prolonged rubbing and can act like an obstacle while running. To avoid, chafing and skin injuries, you may opt for a body glide or as simple as a small box of Vaseline that would protect you all along the race.

5)      Stretching straps and resistance bands

Stretching straps are a useful tool for every runner for both warm up and recovery sessions. Don’t worry, they are adjustable with slots to insert in your feet or shins. Additionally, you could opt for resistance bands as handy so that runners get directional ankle movements which can strengthen the leg area and prevent any injuries.

6)      Injury kit

In case you develop a muscle sprain, ache or injury during the race, you could rely on these bits and bob for an instant recovery. However, we suggest you not to overload yourself with too much weight as it may disrupt your pace and affect performance.

7)     Get some music walking along!

Most runners need a motivation while covering that long distance. You could, too, seek for some lively beats to keep you going till the finish line!
