26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack Key Conspirator Tahawwur Rana Rearrested in US On India’s Extradition Request

Los Angeles : Tahawwur Rana, the prime conspirator of the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai, the country’s financial capital, has been arrested once again in Los Angeles, USA. Rana, a 59-year-old Pakistani terrorist, was sentenced to 14 years in the case. He was granted early release from Los Angeles federal prison last week due to poor health and Coronovirus. However, he was arrested two days later. A case of extradition to India is pending against Tahawwur Rana of Pakistani-Canadian descent in the Mumbai terror attack. It is believed that it is likely to be brought to India after arrest once again.

US lawyers said on Friday that Chicago terrorist Tahawwur Rana had served a 10-year sentence for supporting terrorist groups. He was arrested in Los Angeles in 2008 after India’s accusations of assaulting Mumbai, which had claimed 160 lives. Canadian Tahawwur Rana of Pakistani origin was convicted of a 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack case, Rana was sentenced to 14 years in 2013.

Tahawwur Rana was arrested in 2009 for plotting the Mumbai attack. About 166 people, including American citizens, were killed in the attack. Police killed nine terrorists on the spot and the terrorist Ajmal Kasab, who was arrested alive, was later hanged. Rana was sentenced to 14 years in 2013.

India is trying to extradite Rana, an accused in the Mumbai attack. Experts, however, believe that the paperwork and complicated procedures required for Rana’s extradition will be a ‘challenge’. India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Law and the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Justice all have their own extradition procedures.
