2002 Gujarat riots: SC adjourned Zakia Jafri’s petition till November 26

NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- The Supreme Court (SC) has adjourned the petition of Zakia Jafri, which was challenging the decision of Narendra Modi’s clean chit in the Gujarat riots case. When Gujarat riots was happened in 2002, Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. A clean chit was given to Narendra Modi on the riots that followed Godhra matter. Zakia Jafri challenged this petition in the Supreme Court. However, the hearing was adjourned on Monday.

 

Justice AM Khanvilkar and Deepak Gupta had fixed November 19 as date for hearing the petition. However, the hearing was adjourned today (Monday).

 

Zakia Jafri is the wife of Congress leader Ahsan Jafri. Ahsan Jafri was assassinated during the 2002 Gujarat riots. The Gujarat High Court gave clean chit to Narendra Modi and others on October 5, 2017.

 

She had filed a petition challenging this decision in the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court has adjourned the petition today. The case will now be heard on November 26.

 

The Special Investigation Team had given a clean chit to the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others in the Gujarat riots of 2002.  The Gujarat High Court has also gave clean chit to Narendra Modi in this case.

 

The ex-Congress MP Ahsan Jafri’s wife Zakia Jafri and Citizens for Justice and Peace, a voluntary organization of former social activist Teesta Setalvad, had filed a review petition on Narendra Modi’s clean chit plea alleging that there was a big conspiracy behind the riots.
