6 persons killed in blast during explosive demolished at CAD, Pulgaon

Wardha: NP NEWS 24 ONLINE- At Least six persons are killed and 10 others sustained severe injuries in explosion demolition ground at Central Ammunition Depot (CAD), Pulgaon.

 

The ground was given to ordanance Factory, Khamaria for their demolition activities.

 

Today morning at about 7 am, while unloading ammunition of 23mm, there was blast. Three persons including ammunition factory employee and two laborers have been killed.

The impact of the explosion was such that it terrorised people in the neighbouring Sonegaon village in Deoli taluka of the district.

Official Statement of Defence PRO, “The incident took place at 7.10 am. A demolition process of old explosive by the staff of ordanance factory, Khamaria, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) was taking place. While doing this demolition, there was an accident. Out of these casaulties – few are trained personnel and some contract labourers. These labourers are used to cover the location – post demolition with sandbags. Officials of ordanance have rushed to the location.”

 

Central Ammunition Depot Camp is a military area and the second largest ammunition depot in Asia. It is located near Pulgaon in Wardha district in Maharashtra.

 

CAD, Pulgaon, about 115 km from Nagpur, in Wardha district, is responsible for the supply of ammunition and explosives across India, after receiving the items from different procurement agencies such as ordnance factories, trade sources, etc, and issuing them to ammunition depots/ field ammunition depots. The depot is spread over an area of over 7,000 acres and stores a variety of ammunition in numerous sheds.
