11 promotions, 50 transfers of IPS officers awaited

Mumbai: The political atmosphere in the State is vitiated following central agencies’ action against some leading politicians from the ruling dispensation in maharashtra. In this backdrop, there is curiosity in police circles about pending promotions and transfers of senior IPS officers.

Around 11 promotions and 50 transfers of senior police officers are expected and are eagerly awaited. These officers belong to the ranks from deputy commissioner of police to special inspector general.

All promotions and transfers were stayed till June 30 due to the second wave of the pandemic. There are IPS officers from the state police department serving on the same post for over two years, including 11 additional DGPs, eight special IGPs, seven SDP-DIGs and 34 DCPs. Barring some of these officers, all of them are likely to be transferred. Some of them will be promoted at their current location, said sources.

The transfer orders will be issued within a week after a high-level meeting. The process for the same has already been initiated. Orders may be issued in mid-July, said highly placed sources from the state home department.

Serious allegations were made last year against former state home minister Anil Deshmukh and his PA of taking huge bribes for transfers. This has put pressure on transfers of police personnel this year. Therefore, the chief minister instructed officials to transfer all senior officers simultaneously, said the sources.

Officials waiting for promotion

All IGs Pravin Salunkhe, Niket Kaushik, Nikhil Gupta. Madhukar Pandey, Brijesh Singh, Chiranjeev Prasad, and Ravinder Singhal will be promoted as ADGs. Commissioner of Police, Solapur Ankush Shinde will be promoted as an IG. All DCPs Rajiv Jain, Ishu Sindhu and Abhishekh Trimukhe will be promoted as DIGs, said the sources.
